Activities in 1999 / INTAS Project / Information Package
Extracts from the FINAL REPORT ( INTAS project Ref.No. 96-0457 )
Annex II: Information Package distributed via Internet(WWW) and by e-mail request
International Center for Fundamental Physics in Moscow, is calling for
proposals for individual scientific research projects in theoretical
physics.
Deadline for the submission of proposals on 16 January 1998.
INTRODUCTION.
The International Center for Fundamental Physics in Moscow has
been founded by P.N.Lebedev Physical Institute of the Russian
Academy of Sciences and the Nordic Institute for Theoretical
Physics - NORDITA (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden).
The activity of the Center is aimed at the preservation and
efficient use of the scientific potential existing in Russia
in fundamental physics.
At the initial phase, the Center focuses on the support of scientific
Conferences and Schools on fundamental physics, as well as
on providing fellowships for graduate students and young
researchers permanently living and working in Russia.
The supreme organ of the Center is the Governing Board composed of
leading scientists from Russia and other countries. Selection of
scientific projects and Conferences (Schools) to be funded will be
made by the Scientific Council of ICFPM appointed by the Governing
Board.
ELIGIBILITY OF PROJECT PROPOSALS.
Individual proposals can be submitted by graduate
students and researchers without any scientific degree born
after January 16, 1967.
Financial support will be provided in the form of annual grants
(about USD 900.=). The actual amount of the overall financial
support will be fixed after selection of the projects.
Awards are given for one year, but can be renewed for one
subsequent year.
In case of equal quality of proposals, the preference will be given
to those applicants who have no significant support in the form of
grants or fellowships from other Russian and international sources
(the monthly income from other supportive sources is supposed to be
lower than USD 200.=). An individual grant (labour costs) from INTAS
might be an obstacle for receiving a grant from ICFPM.
Only project proposals in theoretical physics will be considered
which fit one of following fields:
A - Astrophysics and Plasma Physics (and related topics),
B - Nuclear Physics and Elementary Particle Physics (and related topics),
C - Condensed Matter Physics and Complex Systems (and related topics),
and meets the following conditions:
1. A proposal assumes personal fellowship, but not payments
for equipment or payments to applicants' home Institutions.
2. A Fellow does not work abroad for more than two months
out of the twelve during the annual award period. Every
Fellow must agree to the terms of the award.
3. Each proposal indicates a supervisor and one more scientist
(if possible) willing to write a letter of recommendation for
a graduate student (aspirant), or at least two scientists from
Russia or other countries willing to write letters of recommendation
for researchers without degree. Applicants should not send letters
of recommendation themselves.
4. No person participates in more than one proposal under this
ICFPM program.
5. Every Fellow prepares an annual report on his
scientific activity.
6. Applications are submitted using the standard forms.
Application forms can be requested by electronic mail:
To: icfpmcon@td.lpi.ac.ru
Subject: nodegree
or can be found on the Web-server: http://www.icfpm.lpi.ru
Application forms should be completed clearly and in English.
7. An application form should be sent before January 16, 1998 to ICFPM via
electronic mail: icfpm@td.lpi.ac.ru
Three signed hard copies of the application forms along with hard copies
of published papers (no more than 6) in three copies each should be also
sent before January 16, 1998 via conventional mail to:
International Center for Fundamental Physics in Moscow,
Leninsky prospect, 53, 117924, Moscow, Russia.
Please enclose a self-addressed postcard.
8. By signing the application form the applicant agrees to the conditions
and acknowledge the Center's right to disclose any information about
the results of the competition, including financial conditions.
9. The Center reserves the right to inquire for any additional information
on applicants and experts.
